INDICA : Interaction-free display calibration for optical see-through head-mounted displays based on 3D eye localization

چکیده
A correct spatial registration of Optical See-Through HeadMounted Displays (OST-HMD) w.r.t. a user’s eye(s) is an essential problem for any AR application using the such HMDs (Fig. 1). Maintaining the correct registration demands frequent (re)calibrations for the end-users whenever they move the HMD on their head. Thus, a calibration technique should be simple and accurate for the universal, long-run use of the displays. This demonstration showcases IN DICA , an automatic OSTHMD calibration approach presented in our previous work[1] and ISMAR 2014 paper [2]. The method calibrates the display to the user’s current eyeball position by combining online eye-position tracking with offline parameters. Visitors of our demonstration can try our both manual calibration and our interaction-free calibration on a customized OST-HMD.

Single point active alignment method (SPAAM) for optical see-through HMD calibration for AR
Augmented reality (AR) is a technology in which a user’s view of the real world is enhanced or augmented with additional information generated from a computer model. In order to have a working AR system, the see-through display system must be calibrated so that the graphics is properly rendered. The optical see-through systems present an additional challenge because we do not have access to the...

This paper presents initial results from an ongoing work to calibrate optical see-through head-mounted displays (HMDs). We have developed a method to calibrate stereoscopic optical see-through HMDs based on the 3D alignment of a target in the physical world with a virtual object in user’s view. This is an extension of the Single Point Active Alignment Method (SPAAM) [28] developed for monocular...

متن کاملAir Mounted Eyepiece: Design Methods for Aerial Optical Functions of Near-Eye and See-Through Display using Transmissive Mirror Device
We propose a novel method to implement an optical see-through head mounted display which renders real aerial images with a wide viewing angle, called an Air Mounted Eyepiece (AME). To achieve the AMD design, we employ an off-the-shelf head mounted display and Transmissive Mirror Device (TMD) which is usually used in aerial real imaging systems. In the proposed method, we replicate the function ...
